X4 Foundations has a new expansion out today, along with a huge update to the space exploration game. The factions like the Split and Paranid are back, with entirely new stories to tell. And with all the new station-based exploration and crew content, there’s a lot more life to the universe in the sequel. Developer Egosoft has slowly been fleshing out the factions with DLC since launch, and now it’s time for another major update to the game.
X4 introduced a completely revamped and improved version of the X universe, bringing the iconic alien races to conflict in an entirely new light. The X universe has always been a bit of a lawless place, but this new game has made it so that things are much more dangerous. The new updates added this week expand the illicit ways you can make credits. There are two new systems to explore with Windfall and Avarice, each having their own missions and factions. If you want to take on bounties for the local pirates, you can. If you want to salvage the wreckage left by those pirates, that’s an option too.
Along with all the other content added to the game, the Tides of Avarice expansion focuses on the vices and trials of space. You can explore new pleasure-oriented stations now, including those with gambling and other games of chance. Not content with just adding all that, there are even new ships to fool around with. Among various new ships, you can look forward to taking the Erlking out as a new experimental hull based on advanced materials research. There’s also the pleasure yacht, Astrid, where you can explore in style.
Check out the trailer for the new expansion below.
Other additions in the 5.0 patch include refinements to stations to make workstations interactive, as well as new interiors. The X4 Foundations 5.0 update also revamps many of the ship models you know and love, bringing them up to snuff in the new graphics and lighting engine. A big part of this update involves bringing support for AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution to the game. Check out the trailer above to see some of this stuff in action. It’s quite impressive how good this game looks.
Tides of Avarice is now available on Steam and GOG. X4: Tides of Avarice is the third expansion for the latest game in the series, X4: Foundations. X4: Foundations was released for PC in November 2018 and has been improved and updated frequently ever since.
