THQ Nordic acquires another studio, Piranha Bytes

THQ Nordic

THQ Nordic is once again in the news this month for an acquisition they’ve made of a rival studio. The studio is the one behind some pretty well-known properties, which will now become the property of THQ Nordic. These properties include game franchises like Risen, Gothic, and most recently, ELEX.

This means that the studio that’s been acquired is of course Piranha Bytes. Piranha Bytes will remain semi-independent and the 31 employees will remain working in the studio in Austria. The developer will continue working on new games, and THQ Nordic will now be the publisher for these titles.

As to what these new projects might be, fans have a clue in some new hints that came out as part of this announcement tease the likelihood of ELEX 2 being made.

The newly acquired company is apparently very excited to enter this new phase, according to comments from within. “There are situations in life where you think to yourself “This feels right.” Well, this is exactly one of them. We have been working on some great and exciting things over the past couple of years and we are extremely stoked about what the future brings with the right partner and the right network of companies”, said Björn Pankratz, Project Director and Game Designer of Piranha Bytes.
