CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as the new console prep for launch. The updated version for the PS5 and XBSX will feature bug fixes, visual improvements, and a range of gameplay alterations that make it more suited to the new consoles.
The new consoles should also feature much better load times and higher resolution support. At the very least, the PS5 should have a great loading speed thanks to its unique compression chip and storage setup.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is likely one of the most iconic RPGs of a generation, having propelled Geralt and co. into international renown. So seeing the game come to new consoles for free is great. Yes, the developer confirmed that the next-gen edition of the game will be available as a free upgrade to those who already own The Witcher 3 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Secondly, a PC patch for that version is due as well, bringing the features there too.
A release date was not announced for the new versions though, so we could be waiting a few months. The common perception is that the port is due in 2021, shortly after the launch of the consoles. We still don’t have firm release dates for the PS5 and XBSX either, which is kind of weird. Gamers have been eagerly awaiting more news, but the consoles are still a bit of a mystery. Both Sony and Microsoft have said they want the consoles to debut in 2020, but they need to hurry if they want those all-important holiday sales.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. It’s already an incredible game, and you should play it if you have not.
