Indie developer Crytivo has just dropped a new trailer for their upcoming game, The Universim. Within that trailer, fans are getting a deeper look at the new systems coming to the game in future patches. In a new blog post, the team behind the game revealed some pretty interesting details about the upcoming “god game”. There’s plenty of new content coming, so let’s dig in.
The simulation and god game that is The Universim will be moving into a full beta soon. The big new feature coming with that update is the launch of a massively expanded generation toolset. With thousands of new objects, The Unversim will be able to create all manner of different objects, planets and environments. The new system will also handle populating these worlds with new forms of life, as well as managing all of the background simulation and details. In total, these new objects will bring the total of in-game objects to nearly 60,000, whereas previously the number of assets was around 10,000.
The new engine juggling all of this, dubbed the Prometheus, the game will be “controlling dynamic events, pathfinding, resource distribution/allocation,” adding to the complexity of the entire system. But with that complexity comes a cost. It all sounds incredible. There’s so much that can be done with this system that it boggles the mind. Unfortunately, it also boggles the PC too. This game is a real resource hog. The tools are being streamlined so that loading and managing all of these systems and objects won’t be so huge of a task.
The future patches will optimize loading time (from about two minutes down to one) and improve the “size, complexity and density” of its planet. A big chunk of this work involves scaling down on the realism of the planets and life on them. That way, the system spends less time managing individual parts.
As the developers themselves put it, “The Universim aims to revive the glory days of the god-game genre, and bring it into the new generation with fresh ideas and ambitious gameplay,” says the official description, continuing with the following. “With the powers of a god, you are unleashed upon the universe to begin forging your galactic empire in the stars. From dust to the cosmos beyond, your civilization will rise through the ages under your guidance.”
Check out said trailer down below. The Universim is currently available in Early Access on Steam. The game is also taking part in the ongoing final days of holiday sales, and is on discount until January 2nd.
