A recently posted job listing on Pokemon.com revealed that The Pokemon Company is looking to hire a new project lead for an unannounced mobile title. The listing is for a “Principal Game Designer”. which work with “with artists and designers to create a fantastic UI experience, and work with Product Management to define the ideal feature set for this game.”
The candidate would be required to carry out the following duties:
- Work with artists and designers to create a fantastic UI experience.
- Work with Product Management to define the ideal feature set for this game.
- Work with Producers to manage all the designers’ sprint tasks.
- Work with the Director of Gaming to define/enforce the vision for this game.
One other detail we can gather is that the location for the job listing is the location. Since the listing is based on the Bellevue, Washington subsidiary office for TPCI, we can safely assume that this project is something being worked on internally. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of collaboration with another mobile developer, but there’s not much else to go on to suggest that’s happening at this time.
Pokemon Go continues to burn up the charts in terms of popularity in the mobile space, and Niantic continues to reap the benefits from it. So it seems like, based on what we see from the hiring listing, that the project may be something very new that’s being worked on internally. Maybe it’s a spinoff or a new IP, or maybe it’s based on the recently released Let’s Go series of Switch titles, we’ll just have to wait and see.
So what do you think this new project is? Let us know your ideas in the comments.
