The Medium Gets Live Action Trailer

Bloober Team releases The Medium trailer, showing multiple realities

Bloober Team’s upcoming psychological horror title The Medium live action trailer is all that it’s cracked up to be. The emphasis here is on cracked, because it’s aiming to shatter your sanity. We’re not getting much of the story this time, as it’s all about the scares. We see a more realistic depiction of the madness driving Marianne into the depths of the Maw. And we also get a further glimpse into the tone of the entire affair, needless to say, but it’s going to be dark.

Bloober Team are clearly drawing on a variety of influences here, and we see more of that in the visuals shown off in this new trailer.  Despite it being a short two-minute affair, there’s plenty to unpack. The devs are aiming for a combination of subtle and overt references to the work Zdzisław Beksiński. Beksiński is known for some rather horrifying imagery influenced by a combination of Holocaust experiences, and his experience with architecture. By interweaving that tone with a lot of references to trauma and the passage of time, we’re likely to see some very interesting and surreal takes on horror from this game.

Marianne looks to be caught in various trying moments in time, and further trapped between the influence of both real and imagined evil. It’s a very potent mix for any kind of horror property. I can’t wait to see how it’s being gamified.

Check out the trailer for the horror game below. If the idea of a mixture of reality-bending horror and psychological thrillers is your thing, you might want to give it a look.

You could also check out some other footage and coverage about the upcoming game. There are some 14 minutes of horrifying gameplay footage to check out, if the game has piqued your interest.

The Medium was supposed to debut this past December but has since been pushed back a bit. It’s now supposed to come out later this month. The game finally shambles out into the world January 28, 2021, for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
