Later this month, a new hacking simulator lands in our laps with the launch of Tech Support: Error Unknown. This game borrows heavily from the themes of games like Hacknet and Hacker Evolution, creating an interesting narrative through the lens of a master hacker. Developer Dragon Slumber is working with Iceberg Interactive to bring this technicolor dream to life, and it’ll be an interesting one when it finally releases on February 27th. The team behind the game is certainly excited, judging from their public statements about the release of this new tech-savvy title.
“The reception for the game thus far has completely blown me away, and I couldn’t be more excited to get the full version in player’s hands. Although I can’t condone Indigo’s vigilantism, I do believe that these allegations against Quasar should be reviewed under the due process of the law,” says Dragon Slumber’s Kevin Giguère.
In terms of the story, it’s an interesting pitch. Players are cast into the role of a new member of IT staff at Quasar Telecommunications, a multinational conglomerate which apparently holds some shady secrets. A series of weird incident and security issues clue you in to something much more insidious going on behind-the-scenes, and as you dig deeper, a cold war of sorts will be uncovered.
This is a conflict between Quasar and a faction of libratory hackers known as Indigo. And with you caught in the middle, you’ll have to pick a side. Using the Spectrum OS interface of the game, you’ll do just that. And along the way, you’ll make choices that shape the course of the story and engage with branching dialogue and decision trees that can drastically alter the way you play. The gameplay revolves around logic puzzles and other obstacles that you must overcome through Spectrum OS.
