Steam Spring Cleaning Event is now live

Steam Spring Cleaning 2018

I know you’re all waiting for the Steam Summer Sale to kick off, but Valve wants to start this years orgy of gaming consumerism off right, with a “cleaning” event to prelude the actual sale.

The Spring Cleaning event starts today and runs through May 28. As usual with these themed deals, there’s tasks to complete that give rewards like special badges or trading cards. So in other words, don’t bother unless you really love that sort of thing as those tasks are just playing the dozens of games gathering dust in your Steam library. You know, all those games you’ve never played, mostly for good reason.

Cynicism aside, Valve are ready to make more off you whenever you’re ready. Check out the official promo blurb for this new event:

By diving into your Steam Library and playing games that you haven’t looked at in a while (or at all), you can unlock and level up the new Spring Cleaning badge.  But this event isn’t just for those with a hefty backlog of titles to work through. as we said earlier, Spring Cleaning is a time of delightful surprises and so in that spirit the following games will be available to play FREE for the duration of the event (May 24th -May 28th)

There’s a special twist this year too, Valve are offering a variety of games up as free trials during the sale too. The following games are free to play during this weeks sale:

  • Don’t Starve Together
  • Dead by Daylight
  • Cities: Skylines
  • Tyranny
  • Borderlands 2
  • Castle Crashers
  • Shadows of Mordor
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Dirt 4
