EA and DICE have just announced a new Star Wars Battlefront 2 Celebration Edition. The new version of the competitive FPS is bringing hundreds of new cosmetics, as well a bunch of new characters. Most notably among the new additions are versions of Rey and Kylo Ren from Rise of Skywalker.
To celebrate the legacy of the franchise across films, games and more, the publisher has also buried the lead on another new game, well technically it’s a new version. EA and DICE are apparently releasing a new version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 called the Celebration Edition. This is a direct tie-in with the upcoming Star Wars film, Rise of Skywalker, which wraps up the current trilogy.

“Be the hero in the ultimate STAR WARS™ battle fantasy with STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II: Celebration Edition! Get STAR WARS Battlefront II and the complete collection of customization content acquirable through in-game purchase from launch up to – and including – items inspired by STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER* when they release December 20, 2019.”

The Celebration Edition contains:
- Base Game: Including all past and future free game updates as they release
- More than 25 Hero Appearances: Including six Legendary Appearances, plus one Appearance each for Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren inspired by STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, coming December 20
- More than 125 Trooper and Reinforcement Appearances
- More than 100 Hero and Trooper Emotes and Voice Lines
- More than 70 Hero and Trooper Victory Poses.
No official announcement yet though, but if the rumor proves true, the Celebration Edition drops on Dec. 20, the same day as Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars Battlefront II initially launched back in 2017, with a lot of people rather angry over it. It wasn’t a bad game perse, but the way it had been designed around microtransactions and loot boxes left tons of fans completely disappointed. The primary criticism centered on pay-to-win mechanics that tied the best in-game abilities to the RNG of loot boxes. Players also criticized the need to spend endless hours grinding Hero units.
The launch of the title, otherwise a highly anticipated AAA release, was met with sharp backlash. EA and DICE eventually removed the RNG mechanics and rebalanced the entire game.
