Star Citizen: Around the Verse – Outposts and Environmental Storytelling

Chris Roberts’ Cloud Imperium Games released a new video of its upcoming space simulator Star Citizen.

The newest video in the “Around the Verse” series showcases different types of planetary structures, landmarks and environments found on planetary bodies. Players will be able to freely fly in and out of the atmosphere and land on celestial bodies, to explore outposts and landmarks.

The various ouposts will include bits of story laced throughout that tells players about the history and inhabitants of the structures. This will be accomplished through a system of props, decals and other clues. The set dressing of these environments is a huge focus for RSI as it’s crucial to how they’ll build story into the surroundings. This allows Star Citizen to somewhat break from the tradition of plot dump NPCs that exist in many other games.

You can check the video out below, and if you want to see more, you can enjoy another video on the MobiGlas and one on shops and kiosks.

Alpha 3.0 will be distributed to backers between September 4th, and September 8th. It will also most probably be extensively showcased at Gamescom.
