Spelunky 2 online multiplayer mode delayed

Spelunky 2 Delayed Until 2020

Spelunky 2. is about to launch on PC soon, coming out tomorrow September 29 on Steam. But despite all the promise the cartoonish exploration game has, it has failed to deliver on one key promise. There will be no Spelunky 2 online multiplayer on PC when the game launches. The developers have instead taken the time to make sure the feature is properly tested and vetted before they add it. All this comes after the launch of the game on the PlayStation 4 went pretty poorly, with bugs and other issues all over the place.

“Regarding our release date, we listened to the community’s feedback and decided to prioritize an earlier release so that Steam players could enjoy the game ASAP,” developer Mossmouth explained in a post on Steam.

The team did make it clear that they don’t want fans to feel cheated or disappointed by the delay. The launch delay has caused the company to remove the feature listing for the game on Steam.

“Unfortunately, that means we won’t be able to launch with online multiplayer and we’ll be provisionally removing the ‘Online Co-op’ tag from the store, so as not to mislead people. Sorry, we know that’s disappointing for players who were excited to jump right into online co-op on day one. Until very recently we were still hoping that we would be able to launch with it as planned.”

There is some good news to be had though, as the developers have a plan to fix all of this. The developers will work on the problem quickly and Mossmouth said that the process of fixing the problem should l take “a few weeks at most” to get everything ready. After all, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.

You still have access to the singleplayer content, as well as the Adventure Mode and Arena Mode in both single-player or local multiplayer. So all in all, it’s not too bad. The studio made it clear that they’re working on getting things right. Both for fixing the PS4 port and getting the new game mode out. “Online multiplayer is tricky, but we’re committed to getting it right, as it’s great fun when it’s working the way it’s supposed to,” the studio added.
