In an interview with DualShockers, artist Sandy Gordon at the developer Yacht Club Games, the team behind the stupidly successful Shovel Knight, has some interesting news for fans. According to that interview, there’s a certainty that Shovel Knight 2 is “sure happening at some point” meaning that a sequel is coming. It will likely be some time before Shovel Knight 2 becomes a thing.
According to Gordon, they are “sure” Shovel Knight 2 will “happen at some point” as “it’s something we talk about a lot” internally. Developers within the studio have also been working on various spin-offs like Shovel Knight Dig and Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon
So at least hardcore fans of the wonderful and beautiful game won’t be left completely without a Shovel Knight experience in 2020 and beyond. The biggest hurdle that Yacht Club has to get over is finishing its various other projects first. Yacht Club has been hard on work on a variety of other titles. The company has a multitude of different games in the works, one of which is Shovel Knight Dig. The new game is being made in cooperation with Nitrome, and is set to be released sometime in 2021.
Showdown and King of Cards, the last two Shovel Knight expansions were released in December 2019. These expansions added new enemies, levels and other gameplay content that helped extend the experience. Shovel Knight: Showdown adds a handful of new game modes, making the game more similar to a fighting game than the base game. Players compete for treasure across different melee competitions. Even without those addons though, there is so much fun to be had with the base game.
