Check out the RE2 remake launch trailer, and say hello to some old friends
The super impressive remake of Resident Evil 2 is shuffling towards release, and Capcom is still busy pumping out promotional content for the game. The latest bit of footage of the game, aside from a slew of gameplay snippets released last week, is a new gameplay trailer showing two old faces coming back with this new version.
Umbrella operative Hunk and the easter egg that is Tofu are making their way back into Raccoon City. Both characters were featured in the original 1998 version of the game, and were considered special rewards for completing the game multiple times. Longtime fans will recognize both of these names, but here’s a quick refresher for you new folks.
HUNK is the codename for the individual was the leader of the ill-fated Alpha Team in the employment of Umbrella. He’s a canon character who was given his own special scenario that could be unlocked through completing special conditions, like getting an A rank on both main scenarios, then inputting specific button combinations to unlock the new mode.
Tofu is a non-canon entity created by Capcom to test collision-detection within the game environment. Tofu was given his own minigame, The Tofu Survivor, as a parody of HUNK’s The Fourth Survivor. To unlock the Tofu scenario, you must have unlocked The Fourth Survivor, and cleared the Leon A/Claire B storyline 3 times with an A ranking.
And if you want to see more of the game in action, Capcom has plenty of treats for you. There was a recently released batch of trailers showing off sultry Ada Wong. The company also revealed new parts of the story involving the Birkin family, including some completely new areas. And in case you’re wondering, many of the iconic enemies from the original game are making a return, like the Lickers.
Resident Evil 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 25. You can take a look at the new trailer down below.
