Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will use both 4K 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to use a 4K 30 fps mode and a 60 fps mode

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will feature a 4K 30 fps mode and a 60 fps mode with a lower resolution for better framerates. This is pretty standard for console games, which often have to work with fewer resources compared to PC. The narrowing of the power gap between PC and consoles has happened, but it’s still a pretty big gulf. This has led to Insomniac Games confirming that their newest game in the Ratchet & Clank franchise will run at a reduced resolution to achieve higher framerate.

Creative director Marcus Smith and director Mike Daily spoke with Famitsu about the game, revealing this little tidbit. Previously, Insomniac Games said that the new game “showcases what’s possible for games designed around PlayStation 5’s ultra-high speed SSD and DualSense wireless controller.”

Another game, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will use a high-performance mode that will tone down textures and effects to get to the 60 FPS mark at 4K.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is coming to the PlayStation 5. Check out some gameplay footage of the new game below.

There has been plenty of speculation about the release date though. Reports from the Video Games Chronicle cite various sources around the release date for both the new consoles. Xbox Series X will apparently launch in early November, PS5 will land in mid-November.

This comes from a report from Video Games Chronicle suggesting that XSX will launch before the PS5, with Microsoft telling developers that they should aim for the first week of November 2020. Surely this would suggest that Sony could drop the  PlayStation 5 around November 13th.
