Pokémon Go Machamp Raid Guide

What is the October 2020 Research Breakthrough Pokémon in Pokémon Go?

Raids are the true endgame in Niantic’s massively popular mobile hit, Pokémon Go. These challenging PvE battles offer players the chance to take on powerful monsters, and capture them if they win. There are many different encounters on rotation and the developer loves to shift things around. Players have a shot at Machamp this week. as Niantic had to take another glitched raid out temporarily. Here’s a guide for Machamp raids in Pokémon Go.

Pokémon Go Machamp Raid Guide

This version of the Machamp Raid is pretty brutal thanks to how hard-hitting this beast is. Machamp is a pure Fighting-type, which makes it easier to counter. Although you will still need a lot of HP to stand up to their withering attacks. Here are the current weaknesses to pay attention to:

  • Weak against: Fairy, Flying, Psychic
  • Resistant to: Bug, Dark, Rock

Here’s a breakdown of the Machamp Raid and its possible moves.

Fast Moves

  • Bullet Punch (Steel)
  • Counter (Fighting)

Power Moves

  • Close Combat (Fighting)
  • Cross Chop (Fighting)
  • Dynamic Punch (Fighting)
  • Heavy Slam (Steel)
  • Rock Slide (Rock)

What to bring to the Machamp Raid

Machamp is much more lethal than other raids thanks to its overall higher Attack. The moves hit much harder. It’s also a good idea to pay attention to the type of moves it uses. Fairy types are week to Steel, making a few of the heavy moves more dangerous. Flying types also won’t do well in this raid thanks to the weakness to Rock.

Instead, you really need to bring as many Psychic-types as you can. Something that can overcome the attacks with plenty of defense. Machamp’s raid boss CP is 19707, so bring a team that can handle that.

Mewtwo, Alakazam and Espeon are all good choices. Bringing Confusion and Psychic as moves, which are pretty common, is a great idea. Metagross, Mega Pidgeot and Gardevoir are also a soild choice. If you have a Latios with a good mix of Psychic moves, that’s fine too.

Now just fighting your way past the Machamp Raid is a matter of dolling out tons of Psychic damage as you hope for good rolls on the enemy moves. If the RNG lands on your side, this raid should be easy with the right team.
