PlayStation Bringing Trophies to Classic PS1 and PS2 Games

PlayStation Plus Collection workaround resulting in bans

PlayStation Plus will relaunch on May 24 in Asia, on June 2 in Japan, on June 13 in North and South America, and on June 23 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Essential will be the basic tier with online access and a few perks. Extra gets you demos and a few bonus things in the mix. The highest-end tier will get you Premium, offering tons of free games and access to game streaming on PS5.

The PlayStation Plus service has been teasing a major relaunch for a few months now. There have been a lot of people trying to guess what’s coming. And now, we’ve finally know what we’re getting. This June, Sony’s PlayStation Plus service will relaunch as a tiered service with each tier offering access to different benefits and games. Each tier will offer access to demos and free games, with the variety of titles varying by tier.

But that’s not all we’re getting. Sony has apparently snuck a few bonuses into the relaunch. SIE Bend Studio, the team behind Syphon Filter, has just announced something no one really expected. When the game comes out on Premium PS+, there will be support for PlayStation Trophies in the game, among others. This allows players to earn achievements for in-game accomplishments, something Sony has shied away from porting to older re-releases.

In addition to Syphon Filter, a number of classic titles will be available for all PlayStation Plus Premium members. The game list also includes a mix of classic and PS1 and PS2 games that allow players to get that nostalgia back. PS+ Premium buyers will also get PSP games as well. The mixture is pretty potent if you’re after that nostalgia boost. The following is a list of PSP and PlayStation 1 games coming to the service at launch:

  • Ape Escape
  • Hot Shots Golf
  • I.Q. Intelligent Qube
  • Jumping Flash!
  • Syphon Filter
  • Super Stardust Portable
  • Mr Driller
  • Tekken 2
  • Worms Word Party
  • Worms Armageddon

That’s not all, as Sony is working in many more games beyond these. For the complete list of new games, you can read the original blog post here.
