Planet Zoo kicks off launch with new trailer

Planet Zoo

Frontier Developments has become well-known for a few different games, with simulators playing heavily into their overall strategy. Their most celebrated game of course being Elite: Dangerous. This particular space race was a rather massive project, so the team has dialed back on the scale with recent projects, often aiming to go in new directions entirely. Now, we have their latest game in our paws, Planet Zoo.

Planet Zoo is a very similar title to Planet Coaster, in that designing and building your dream zoo is the main goal. You can run for education and profit as goals simultaneously, blending together themes, rides and attractions to keep visitors engaged. Along the way, you will learn a bit about animals and how they live. This information is important because the game will have you building habitats for them in detail.

Borrowing elements from another title, Jurassic World Evolution, Frontier Developments has thrown a much more personable journey into the animal kingdom together. Planet Zoo is all about keeping your animals happy in their exhibits happy. Having sickly or depressed animals will also affect your bottom line as park-goers will start to notice such things.

Here’s how the developer spoke about their newest effort:

Meet a world of incredible animals. From playful lion cubs to mighty elephants, every animal in Planet Zoo is a thinking, feeling individual with a distinctive look and personality of their own. Craft detailed habitats to bring your animals’ natural environments home, research and manage each species to allow them to thrive, and help your animals raise families to pass their genes onto future generations.

The game is being built up as a continuation of the studio’s departure from the trappings of Elite: Dangerous. Going from titles like that to a much more narrow scope and mellow gameplay style isn’t easy, but it seems like Frontier know exactly what they’re doing.
