Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous announced, new classes, monsters and more

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Following in the successful footsteps of  RPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Owlcat Games has more projects on the way, as their latest news has revealed.  The studio is working on a new project called Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. The game is not a sequel to Kingmaker, but a wholly new video game that builds on prior success. The studio secured third-party investment, to the tune o $1 million to make this new game, from investment firm Gem Capital.

Owlcat is keeping a lot of the new details under wraps for now, hoping to share more in the future as their new RPG project grows. We do know that this game will not follow the same path of Pathfinder: Kingmaker. But what we will see, is an overall improvement. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will include all the tabletop elements that fans of the brand love, but will expand and refine them. A more expanded setting, complete with both new characters and class types, forms the backbone of the adventure.

And being based on the 2009 Paizo offshoot inspired by 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons, we can expect plenty of detail in a variety of areas. Owlcat Games will draw from these influences to offer enhanced gameplay options and more player choice. Where the crux of the previous game was a simplistic town-builder centered around managing a kingdom, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will give players a chance to increase their power far beyond this simple level. One way the developers are aiming to expand is in a new high-level progression system that drastically alters gameplay style.

As for the story, it’s based on an already extant adventure in the Paizo property, here’s how Owlcat describes it:

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is based on the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path from the tabletop game but includes new characters, plots, and elements to entertain even players already familiar with the adventure. It tells the story of a large-scale conflict between mortals and demons where players are invited to immerse themselves in a world under siege from demonic forces. As a vicious invasion threatens the world, the consequences of one’s decisions will forge a unique narrative of their personal battle between good and evil.

The game announcement also revealed some new areas players will explore, like the haunting Abyss. But don’t worry, you won’t go in unprepared. The new classes, the witch and the oracle, offer tempting and dangerous new class options with tantalizing new powers. With these new powers at your disposal, you will lead the fight against an encroaching demonic threat.

At this time, Owlcat Games has not disclosed an exact release date for the game. So if you’re waiting for a new Pathfinder PC game, you could be waiting a while.
