Panzer Dragoon Remake Announced for Nintendo Switch

Panzer Dragoon is a niche franchise to be sure, but the Sega Saturn title that kicked off the cult classic is getting a new lease on life. Nintendo has announced a full remake of the classic RPG and rail shooter mixture for the Switch console. The original came out in 1995, spawning multiple sequels for various platforms, with the most recent title being Panzer Dragoon Orta for the original Xbox. That was the most recent title in the franchise, and was even produced by members of the team that worked on the very first game.

Now, we finally after more than a decade get to return to the roots of the game. The remake has been in the works for a while by the fine folks at Forever Entertainment, and it will feature completely redone visuals with controls optimized for the portable console. The gameplay will remain true to the original setup that players know and love from the first game.

The same development team is also hard at work on a remake of another game in the franchise, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, although no release date or platforms are confirmed for this other title.

The remake is scheduled to drop this Winter for the Switch, check out the trailer above.
