Overwatch and Diablo might get full animated series’

Activision Layoffs “in the Hundreds” Are Coming

According to new rumors circulating online, Diablo and Overwatch could be getting quite an interesting addon project. According to reports based on a certain LinkedIn profile, the two major Blizzard games could get full animated series’ produced from them. The prospect of Diablo and Overwatch animated series’ has a lot of people excited, and for good reason. The Diablo franchise is a legendary icon of both RPGs and the wider gaming industry. And while Overwatch does not have the long-term clout that the former gaming property does, but Overwatch has certainly managed to capture a fair bit of staying power thanks to the rise of eSports.

The two properties both have strong characters and an overarching story to pull from as well, lending credence to the idea. It certainly would not be the first time that a gaming property has been adapted to smaller screens. The Witcher’s very well-received Netflix series, while not animated, certainly proved the idea can be useful.

Other companies have also jumped onto the bandwagon with these ideas. Capcom was at one point developing an animated series based on Monster Hunter, called Legends of the Guild. Sony has previously teased an entirely new division dedicated to making films and TV by and for gamers, based around various iconic properties.

As for the new shows based on the two aforementioned Blizzard titles, their still in the works. “The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix,” says Activision Blizzard Studios co-president, so it won’t be out anytime soon. Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk also chimed in, saying that, Diablo is being “rendered in anime style” for this series. This will be a pretty big departure from the polished CG cutscenes in Diablo 3, and of course the much more eerily beautiful look of Diablo 4.
