Fans of the major competitive shooter juggernaut Overwatch may be about to get some insane news at Blizzcon 2019. According to ESPN’s sources, the new game, being billed as Overwatch 2, will feature revamped gameplay across the board. Innovations in the rumored sequel could include all-new maps, game modes, a dedicated PvE series of story-driven gameplay segments that might act as a sort of campaign for the multiplayer-focused title. Of course, none of this has been confirmed as of yet.
ESPN found the teasers that revealed these details through an anonymous source, citing various plans Blizzard has for the future of the shooter franchise. New game modes are teased, like a new game mode called “Push,” which hasn’t been revealed and we don’t know much about yet other than it being PvP-focused, and will be joined with a new PvE option too. The introduction of new game modes doesn’t stop there though. An objective-based four-versus-four mode may also be coming to the franchise.
Gamers can also expect a new four-player mode is expected to take place in Rio de Janeiro, a new map for the franchise. Gameplay on existing maps is about to change a fair bit as well, with the reveal of hero talents and in-game items. These will augment the Ultimate abilities system and give players a new stable of conditional responses to counter enemy teams with.
Overwatch 2 has not been confirmed at this time, and as such has no firm release date. Of course, a new Overwatch is not the only entry on the docket for Blizzard this year when festivities begin in November for their annual convention. Gamers are hotly anticipating announcements on Overwatch 2, Diablo 2 Remastered, and a Diablo 4.
