Original Star Wars Battlefront II joins Xbox Live Games with Gold

Xbox Live

Xbox Live Gold, the premium online subscription service offered by Microsoft as a companion to Xbox Live, just keeps getting better and better. The service first and foremost grants access to online multiplayer and communication functions, allowing gamers to team up and test their skills in a huge library of hundreds of games with opponents all over the world. But that’s not all it does either. Xbox Live Gold has been offering paid subscribers a special bonus called Xbox Live Games with Gold.

Xbox Live Games with Gold offers gamers the chance to download free games each month, usually 3-4 in total over the course of a single month, and keep them for the life of their subscribed account. So as long as you have Xbox Live Gold, you can download and play games from a variety of genres from across the entire life of the Xbox brand.

And this upcoming month in April 2019 is no different. There’s four new titles coming to the service next month, including one that I’m actually pretty excited to be able to play.

Starting on April 1st, two new titles drop onto Games with Gold. The first of these is on the Xbox One, The Technomancer. This indie title from 2016 was developed by Spiders brings all of the trappings of a richly realized cyberpunk future to the gameplay styling of a Bioware-developed RPG. It’s interesting characters and world are a treat if you’re fan of the genre.

Also coming at the beginning of April is the excellent Star Wars Battlefront II. Not the re-imagined shooter that was beset by a lot of negative press due to loot boxes, but this version is the massive and sprawling shooter from the original Xbox which pitted two great armies in battles on the ground and in space in a trek across the Star Wars canon. You owe it to yourself to play this.

Two other titles drop part way through the month as well. Outcast: Second Contact will take players on a journey through a graphically impressive wonderland that’s actually a rather entertaining rehash of a 90s experience. The other final addition comes int he form of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. This brutal and hyper-realistic shooter from the Xbox 360 era will challenge you with highly tactical combat that punishes mistakes.

Xbox Live’s Major Nelson took to the interwebs to flaunt this new batch of titles. The announcement blog also dropped a new trailer, showing these newly added games in action. Check that out down below.
