No Man’s Sky Companions update adds monster taming and breeding

How to find synthetic creatures and robots in No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky has done a wonderful job rebounding from its controversial launch. What was once a threadbare experience has become a true survival hit in its own right. The various updates to the game have added tons of new features to the digital galaxy. From derelict freighters and mysterious ruins, to a new batch of merchants, there’s always something to do in this game.

The latest update from Hello Games is something else entirely though, as there’s now monster breeding in the game. THat’s right, you can now live out your Pokémon fantasies in this expansive sci-fi adventure across hundreds of planets, with thousands of unique species. Say hello to No Man’s Sky Companions. With this new update, players can make many more scientific discoveries as they catalogue the many unique species on thousands of alien worlds.

Players will do a lot more in this new patch than just finding lost treasures. As you encounter and tame various wild beasts, you can use them in a variety of ways—including as support during dangerous encounters—but also just as a friend. You can feed and play with your new pets while out on adventures, making them good pals to bring along. They can also help you out by locating hidden objects during their time on a planet.

You can adopt a team of six companions at any one time. Be sure to pick a solid mix of abilities. You may need one to act as a light source on dark planets, or maybe you need something that’s good at moving large objects. So pick and choose your team wisely. You will not be stuck with your picks though, as you can swap them around as you please.

To help manage all of this, you get a new tool called the Register. The in-game Companion Register allows you to track the mood, personality and overall health of your companions. You can also manage them and dismiss or summon them at any time.
