Rockstar has just released more details about the upcoming update for Red Dead Online, one which is scheduled to land in the old west on February 26th.
There’s a ton of new and reworked content in this new update, and that’s all in addition to the honour and other revamps which have already been made. Rockstar also announce that the weekly events will start appearing in Red Dead, similar to the style in which those kind of events appear in GTA Online.
Here’s the full rundown of everything Rockstar plans to add and improve in the update next week:
Fool’s Gold Free Roam Events – The Free Roam Challenges are getting some new options. The big new addon is a game mode called Fool’s Gold. This open-world event is an all-for-one style brawl between players where one person is plated in solid gold armor. Other player must avoid getting taken out by the one decked out in bling while also trying to end their run. You only score points for kills when wearing the armor, so if you manage to drop the wearer, you don the armor next. Think of this like a much more bloody game of hot potato.
Showdown Modes – Three new competitive modes are joining the rotation in the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2 with this update as well. There are three new modes called Up in Smoke, Spoils of War and Plunder.
Challenges Expanded – Players have had a ton of fun competing against each other in various in-game challenges, now the list gets even bigger with the inclusion of fishing challenges. Players are equipped with a rod and some bait unique to the challenge, with each challenge having different bait, as well as different fish to catch. The player who turns in the largest catch of the required type wins.
New Weapons and Gear – Gamers will be able to have a lot more destructive fun with next week’s update, as it includes a few more deadly options, as well as some new threads. Firstly there’s two new weapons, there’s a high capacity Evans Repeater rifle which is joined by the double-barreled Rare Shotgun. There’s a new Diamondback Hat and the fur trimmed Rutledge Vest being added to the already massive wardrobe in Red Dead Online with this update too. New Outfits, Jackets, Boots, Coats, Gloves, Hats, Vests and more will be added in future updates.
PS4 Early Access Begins – Anyone who owns the game on PS4 has early access to Open Target Races where you compete in an open space to take out the most targets on horseback. PS4 players will also get early access to the Jawbone Knife, a unique melee weapon with a handle artfully carved from the remains of a slain animal’s jaw, as well as a range of new clothing options and three new Emotes.
To celebrate all of these new goodies, Rockstar is giving players a reward. The company is activating XP bonuses until the patch goes live. You earn 20% more XP on all activities ahead of the launch of the February 26 update.
