With the launch of New World, Amazon has been having a rough day. The game has been relatively bug-free and stable, once you actually log in. And that’s where the problems start, as gamers just can’t get past login queues. Players are anxious to get in, and are resorting to nefarious tricks to stay online and avoid AFK logout timers. This has itself made the problem worse. When the provider of one of the biggest server infrastructure companies can’t handle server load, you know there’s a problem. Amazon Game Studios has been trying to mitigate the issues, but the bugs and AFK issues abound.
The company came out of the gate with an announcement that seeks to help deal with the problem. In short, they’re trying to shuffle players off of the overpopulated servers, and onto the new ones. The developer plans to bring new infrastructure online soon. And with a game peaking near 1 million concurrent players on day one, they’re going to need to do that fast.
The official New World Twitter account released a statement, also available on their blog, saying:
All regions are now live! It has been an unbelievable 24 hours, and the support for New World that we’ve seen so far has been incredible. We understand that some players are experiencing lengthy queue times, and we are working hard on a few things to help address these issues. We are continuing to stand up additional servers and will expand the capacity of our existing servers once we have properly tested these changes.
Our sole focus right now is to get everyone logging in and playing quickly. To ensure everyone can find an open world now, while also finding a home in Aeternum with their community long-term, we’ll offer an opportunity in the next two weeks for all players to relocate their characters to a new server of their choice at no cost.
We appreciate your patience as the New World community grows and encourage you to solidify your long-term server plans for you and your Company.
Thanks for your support! We can’t wait to see you in Aeternum.
Keep an eye out for the new servers when they come online. Players will be able to get transferred to the new locale free of charge, which is great. For now though AGS has to work on getting the actual tech up and running. Because as the game is right now, character transfers aren’t possible in-game just yet. We can expect a patch to be deployed to rectify that oversight.
