New platformer, Inmost, headed to PC and Switch

Inmost Headed to PC and Switch

A new game coming out from independent developers Chucklefish and Hidden Layer have announced their newest game and its platforms of choice. Inmost will bring puzzle-platforming action to the Switch and PC with a unique and darker story.

Inmost puts out some very somber vibes with its 2D style over animated backgrounds which themselves feature all manner of dark and dreary imagery. The game itself will echo these setups in the tone of the story as well. The pixelated environs and spooky lighting add to the chilling effect that the developers are clearly going for. The whole thing just works on an intriguing level.

In terms of gameplay, it’s also taking a unique approach. Inmost isn’t just a strange game visually, this platformer is really looking to shake your sensibilities in more ways than one. Judging from the trailer, gameplay will include some interesting interactions between light and darkness which also take advantage of the themes built into the narrative. Given the extreme focus on lighting presented to the player visually, it makes sense that it would also affect gameplay in different ways. It’s hard to say more than that, because we can only see a small bit of gameplay though.

Inmost is an atmospheric, story-driven puzzle platformer, following three playable characters within one dark, interconnecting story. In an old abandoned castle, you’ll need to explore every nook and cranny, avoid detection, slice your way through enemies and spring deadly traps in order to escape the evil that lurks within…

As players explore across two worlds of ghoulish light and shadow, they’ll uncover hidden passages, deadly enemies, vicious traps and so much more. Hidden Layer claims that “each pixel is placed with love,” so that players will have an endless array of goodies and ghastly dangers to uncover. It all sounds pretty fun.

There’s not a firm release date as of yet, but the goal is 2019 as a general date. So if you’re looking for something to scratch that Hollow Knight itch, perhaps Inmost can help.

Check out the announcement trailer for Inmost down below. The game will launch sometime in 2019 for the Switch and PC platforms.
