Necromunda: Underhive Wars is a new game from Rogue Factor, the team behind Mordheim: City of the Damned. This new adaptation of the tabletop game from Games Workshop takes you on a new journey into the mutant and Chaos infested depths of the Underhives. In the RTS-style gameplay, you control one of the Underhive gangs that are infamous within the WH40K lore for their viciousness and fondness for mutations.
Necromunda is a planet covered in poisonous ash wastes, forcing its population to live in Hive Cities, massive man-made structures built up over thousands of years simply to provide resources to the Imperium of Man. In Hive Primus, the rich and noble live above the clouds in the Spire while the poorest and worst-off live in a massive and forgotten subterranean metropolis, the Underhive, where criminals fight in perpetual gang wars for control. This latest game will place you square in the middle of that conflict.
As for gameplay modes, there’s a few different choices in Necromunda: Underhive Wars. The main campaign features a singelplayer, narrative-driven, experience. There’s also a Conquest mode that is much more challenging and sees a persistent in-game state that acts as a backdrop for ongoing war between the gangs. One cool aspect is that the decisions you make in battle stick with, as injuries to your gangs take time to heal. Players can also duke it out in online matches as well.
The tactical aspects of the game are really fleshed out as well. Much like in the X-Com games, squads can be heavily customized both aesthetically and in terms of gameplay abilities. Squads can be as disgusting or as “beautiful” as you want to make them in this game. The in-game environments are also a sight to behold. All the grime and junk one would expect from a massive pile of rust and sludge is rendered in great detail. Players will also need to make use of these environs to set up ambushes and gain tactical advantages in order to succeed in fights.
