Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge animated movie coming

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge

Anyone who has been around since the legendary violent Mortal Kombat fighting game first debuted in arcades will also recall the legacy of creative efforts the game series spawned. The films are cheesy to the point of being absurd and laughable. But for the schlock that they are, they simply cannot be beat in terms of campy appeal. Of course the films are also equally beloved and mocked by fans of the Mortal Kombat games.

And across those films, both live-action and animated, there has always been a desire for more to come out of the pits out Outworld. Now, that wish has been fulfilled, as a new animated Mortal Kombat movie is set to drop in the next few months. Co-creator of the series, Ed Boon, announced such developments on Twitter. The film is called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, and it brings a new story to the small screen for the iconic franchise.

All the iconic cast of fighters will be there, with some strong A-list voice talent bringing them to life. Joel McHale and Jennifer Carpenter have been cast as Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade respectively.

In terms of the remaining voice cast for the animated feature, there’s plenty of recognizable talent on deck, even some very well-known game industry VAs who have lent their talents to various video game incarnations of the characters. The voice cast for Scorpion’s Revenge will consist of Patrick Seitz as Scorpion and Hanzo Hasashi, Jordan Rodrigues as Lui Kang, Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Darin De Paul as Quan Chi, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs, Kevin Michael Richardson as Goro, and Grey Griffin as Kitana and Satoshi Hasashi.

Scorpion’s Revenge will be helmed by animation director Ethan Spaulding. Supernatural TV Jeremy Adams penned the script. Rick Morales and Jim Krieg act as the producer and co-producer for the project, respectively. And of course Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon will be on-hand to help the film maintain a cohesive vision as a creative consultant.

Scorpion’s Revenge is currently slated for a mid-2020 release date.
