New trailer teases story and other bits for Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 Story and Gameplay Trailers

The Mortal Kombat 11 livestream today showed off gameplay, fatalities, customization options, new character Geras, Ronda Rousey and more. Fans of the iconic fighting game franchise are really excited, and they should be, because this new entry into the series looks great.  NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. look like they’re really hitting hard this time around.

Mortal Kombat 11 picks up after the events of MKX, which spoilers by the way, involved some major warping of the overall narrative. The focus of the newest game in the franchise is a time-travel arc revolving around fixing the mistakes from Mortal Kombat X. Chief among these issues is the killing of Shinnok by Raiden. That culminating moment defines the history of constant resistance by Earthrealm, and that has caused some major headaches for the greater powers. The ultra-powerful Kronika, the Keeper of Time has stepped in to make things right. And only time will tell exactly what her plans are.

Check out the new story prologue for the upcoming fighting game down below. Mortal Kombat 11 will be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch and is planned to launch April 23.

In terms of other content, tons of other gameplay footage was released as part of the livestream. NetherRealm also revealed a bit about the Custom Character Variation System. Which much like competitor title SoulCalibur VI, will allow players to create custom variants and new characters using pre-existing assets in-game.
