Monster Hunter World: Iceborne comes to PC on January 9

Monster Hunter World Iceborne Tobi-Kadachi

PC fans have really taken to Monster Hunter with the launch of Monster Hunter World. And Capcom has really keyed into the success and spun various other franchise entries into major success like Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5. Monster Hunter World in particular is a major success for the company, pushing millions of units. A big part of this sale milestone success was the massive improvements to the gameplay formula, which are only getting better in Iceborne.

The visuals are getting souped up too, as various improvements will be applied to the PC version with the launch of expansion patch. 4K resolution, an uncapped frame rate, ultra-widescreen support, DirectX 12 support, and a high-resolution texture pack will all be added to the monster hunting extravaganza in that patch. Gameplay changes are also coming to streamline some elements, namely with improved mouse and keyboard controls, to make the game easier to deal with. And this is very welcome as Iceborne will also introduce new tools and weapons that completely rebalance the combat, like the Clutch Claw.

But not content to just add new hunting tools, Capcom is also throwing in a major upgrade to the roster of beasts to hunt with said tools. Zinogre is making a return to the franchise. Joined by a whole host of subspecies of MHW monsters like new Viper Tobi-Kadachi with its much more vicious attack patterns. And the whole roster is capped off by a new Elder Dragon too.

All this sounds great to me, as I’m among many fans eagerly awaiting the launch of this new expansion after fully migrating to the PC version. We won’t have to wait much longer though, as an announcement from Capcom has revealed that the expansion will arrive on January 9, 2020. Check it out in another new trailer released for the update, down below.

If you’re looking to prepare for the expansion, we actually have some tips on how to get prepared for the journey into the Hoarfroast Reach. There’s a lot of gear to collect, especially the event Arch-Tempered Gamma gear sets which will be very useful for starting out in Iceborne. Luckily for returning players, the Autumn seasonal event is live now, bringing back all the event quests at once including AT Kulve Taroth. If you want to snatch these older sets at a later date, the PC modding scene has your back with a way to play the MHW event quests at any time.

But don’t hold onto that Gamma set too long, as it will be very easily outclassed by the new + Sets.
