Metroid Prime 4 team hires former EA Art Director

Metroid Prime 4 Development Restarted

Retro Studios, the developer of Metroid Prime 4, has hired Jhony Ljungstedt as an Art Director. The former EA alum was Art Director for multiple EA games. He has experience with Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, and the 2010 Medal of Honor among other titles. Retro Studios previously worked on the other elements of the Metroid Prime trilogy. This should allow them to bring more experience to the project and finally get this game finished.

The point at which the game is now is still very early, but it helps to know that progress is being made. It has been some time since Retro released a game, with their last title being the 2014 Wii U release of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze. That game was later ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2018, helping fill out the first-party roster of IPs on the portable console.

The company has been looking to fill the gap in its leadership for some time. Retro Studios has been trying to find an Art Director since June 2019. This hiring will not only allow the art team on the project to be more connected with the rest of development, giving them better direction and flow but will also help development stay more focused overall.

The game has been in the works for some time, although it was put off indefinitely, before having full-time development work restarted in January 2019.  The game was revealed at E3 2017 with nothing but a simple teaser logo, and then nothing was heard about Metroid Prime 4 until two years later.
