Megaquarium, the new game from Twice Circled, is stalking towards it’s release next month. Get it? Stalking? Like a shark! I’ll stop.
For those of you that are new here, I really like these kinds of games. The fusion of a not-too-often explored business or economic aspect and simulation and gameplay is a drug of choice (aside from coffee) for me. Tim Wicksteed of Twice Circled previously put together Big Pharma, a game for the Martin Shkreli in all of us, minus the prison time. You can check out our coverage of that over here.
Now the newest game from the indie studio, Megaquarium, does exactly what it says on the tin. You’re the new owner/manager of an aquarium loaded with all types of aquatic life. And while your main goal is to turn a profit, you also don’t want to flood the place or kill all the fish. This means you’ll face a variety of challenges and day-to-day kerfuffles as you try to claw that last dollar from the pockets of your visitors. You’ll be scrubbing tanks, worrying about water purification and making sure you don’t let hostile fish eat everything sight over the course of the game.
You can encourage visitors to check out your ever-increasing collection of exotic saltwater fishies, sorry no freshwater varieties at launch, with unique exhibits and clever games and attractions to bilk more money from them. Players can also design their layouts to create increasingly wacky and absurd aquariums if they wish. The game has a huge variety of assets that can be mashed together to create tons of combinations.
So if that sounds like your kind of fun, check out the game on Steam.
