We’re fully into December, and that means it’s shopping season once again, and Piranha Games is hoping your in the market for some massive heavily-armed robots. OK, in all seriousness, MechCon 2018 ran this weekend and the developers of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries were on hand to show off some new gameplay.

The newest trailer for the game shows a much more polished and feature-complete version than what I remember from a few months back, which is probably a good thing when it comes to a game about blowing up giant robots. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is sporting an improved graphical engine, which should really help improve immersion within the game.

In terms of gameplay, we get some superficial looks at the singleplayer and narrative-driven elements of the game, so fans of the actual lore will be happy to see that. Speaking of lore, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries takes place during the Third and Fourth Succession Wars, and the player is the commander of a mercenary outfit looking to strike it rich in this conflict.

Throughout the course of said conflict the player will grapple with all manner of choices in terms of what tasks to take on and what kind of weaponry to bring along. The game features not only an immersive combat and weather simulation system, complete with terrain deformation, but there’s also a plethora of weaponry and mech loadouts to choose from when heading into a fight. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will have players explore hundreds of planets as they build up and customize their mech, so there’s plenty to do.

Check out the new trailer for the game down below, in all of its exploding goodness. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is due out for PC sometime in 2019. I do say, the game looks rather spiffy with its improved graphics and effects, I’m looking forward to blasting some huge robots to bits.
