It’s no secret that video games can be addictive, but one Russian man feels he has become so hooked on Fallout 4 that he is suing the creators of the game, Bethesda, for compensation. In a statement to Russian news site RT, the man said his addiction to Fallout has cost him his health, his job, and his wife.
If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it…I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.
In terms of compensation for his distress, he is looking for 500,000 Rubels or close to $7000 US.
The practice of seeking compensation for gaming addiction is nothing new. There are even instances of successful claims being awarded, such as a 2010 case in which a player of Lineage 2 sued NCSoft over similar addiction claims. It’s unknown if this Fallout case will yield any changes to gaming and it’s marketing. But such changes aren’t impossible.
