LittleBigPlanet 4 isn’t coming soon

LittleBigPlanet 4

Media Molecule has just released a new game on PS4, Dreams, which aims to bring the joy of creating complex mini-games and even full prototypes to a new generation of video game players. The company cut its teeth on the LittleBigPlanet franchise and fans loved that silly little game built around cutesy environments and a wonderfully complex scripting engine. The release of Dreams on PS4 has been well-received and this hype has led to many wondering if LittleBigPlanet 4 could happen anytime soon.

The developer behind Dreams on the PS4 and the LittleBigPlanet series of games says that they’re focused on Dreams for now and that LittleBigPlanet 4 will not be on their radar for some time. Media Molecule director Siobhan Reddy says that the studio is working on developing new content for their new PS4 release, but that they are not opposed to the idea of a new game in the older franchise. “We love LBP and LBP will always be our baby,” Reddy told GameSpot.

Dreams is our spiritual successor to it,” said the statements, pointing out that Media Molecule has moved past the simpler LittleBigPlanet. And it shows how the newest game has massively improved on the formula that Media Molecule helped refine over the years. The power of Dreams is pretty solid, the amount of creative projects, prototypes, and mini-games flowing out of the community is really impressive.

One member of the community around this new PS4 title even managed to create a simple version of their idea of what LittleBigPlanet 4 could look like within the game, check that out below.

The original LittleBigPlanet was released in 2008, LittleBigPlanet 2 arrived in 2011. The third game in the series was handled by Sumo Digital and was the first entry in the franchise to appear on PS4. There was also a PS3 version, completing the cycle that the first two games started as they were both PS3 exclusives.

So while it’s sad that LittleBigPlanet 4 isn’t coming anytime soon, there’s still a good reason to boot up your PS4 and grab Dreams to see what you can come up with.
