Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards releases today on Switch Online

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

A Switch port of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards has debuted this week on NSO. The game has been added as part of the N64 emulation bundle built into the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. Nintendo has been trying to appeal to more users to get them to fork over extra cash for the Expansion Pack. Exclusive DLC access and emulation bundles have been a big push in this regard. One of the first things the company did was add N64 and Sega Genesis emulation when this bundle debuted.

The classic N64 adventure brought Kirby and pals into a new generation and gave them tons of fun stuff to do. The game originally came out in 2000, offering players a glimpse of what a 3D Kirby game would truly be, bringing the franchise into the 21st century for the first time. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this classic ported forward onto a new console by Nintendo. Players of the Wii U also got access to this game via the virtual console.

The visual look of the Switch port is much brighter compared to both the Wii U and N64 variants. Like all Nintendo Switch Online classics, Kirby 64 now has the highest resolution possible, and has a bit more clarity in detail.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is now available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. Check out the trailer below. The description reads:

“Venture beyond Dream Land. Stop the hungering Dark Matter. The Kirby 64™: The Crystal Shards game, originally released for the Nintendo 64 system, is available on May 20th for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.”
