King of Fighters XV officially in development

EVO 2019 has been a busy as all heck this year, with tons of teases and game announcements that have fighting game fans going nuts. With the announcement of some new DLC fighters in Tekken 7, as well as an entirely new game in the Guilty Gear series, things are really heating up in the FGC. And with this latest reveal, SNK has kicked off their own bit of hype.

It turns out that long-standing fixture of the arcade and fighting game scene, SNK, has been silently working on King of Fighters XV.

This will mark the newest major release in the series in more than four years, in a franchise that has been a fixture of the scene since 1994. Since that original game, the games have come a long way, and have been a defining feature in the development of the tastes of multiple generations of gamers.

The series was developed originally for SNK’s Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware, and became a consistent showing within the arcade scene for years. It blended together many characters from SNK titles into one giant brawl, and the story woven through the games reflected that fact. King of Fighters has had so much staying power that it’s even had multiple guest fighters in other games, like Tekken and lesser-known entries like Fighting Days.

We don’t know much about the game yet as all we have seen so far is the King of Fighters XV logo. We’ll be sure to let you know if something new breaks.
