Update: It appears that the slides suggesting a PC release may have been a mistake. In a statement a Square Enix spokesperson said, “We have no further information on if Final Fantasy XVI will be released on platforms other than the PS5.” As for Demon’s Souls, IGN has been told that the text, “stating the remake would be coming to PC and “other consoles” was included in error.”
Is the Demon’s Souls Remaster coming to PC? It would seem that the game most figured would be a PS5 exclusive is coming to PC at some point. This is based on the slide at the end of the trailer from the PS5 reveal today. The same event that confirmed Final Fantasy 16 also announced a new launch title for the console, The terrifying and beautiful Demon’s Souls Remaster.
The Demon’s Souls Remaster will come to the PS5 as a console exclusive, but it would seem that the game will eventually move over to PC, functioning as a timed exclusive and PS5 launch title first.
Nibel has posted a promotional image showing that the Demon’s Souls will be coming to PC that appeared at the end of the trailer for the game. This has since spread across the internet. It’s also worth mentioning that the game will be a PS5 exclusive and launch title, per Geoff Keighley on Twitter as well.
There’s no concrete information about a release date though, so it seems likely that the PS5 will be the frontrunner here, as it would make the most sense. The original version of this horrifyingly difficult classic was a PS3 game after all. So Sony abandoning the franchise’s rebirth to PC just doesn’t make sense.
The Dark Souls franchise has also been a regular fixture on PC for years, so it really would help sales to continue that trend.
So, for now, all we know for sure is that the game is coming to PC, but not anything more. Sony has shown previous willingness to pander to the PC audience, with Steam launches of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding.
