How To Upgrade The Workbench in Valheim

Being a crafting RPG, there’s a lot of time you’re going to spend hunched over your Workbench in Valheim. When you upgrade your Workbench in Valheim, you will often unlock new crafting recipes. This is something you need to do regularly as the tougher enemies later in the game can shake off hits from weaker tools. To get into more advanced tools like the Copper Axe, you need to upgrade your crafting, here’s how to do that.

How to upgrade the Workbench in Valheim

Firstly you need to build a Workbench. You will need to build a house around it for it to count. You will need to have four walls, a calling and a floor to make the Workbench valid. When you have that setup, you can unlock new recipes.

The right mouse button will allow you to open the Workbench when you have a Hammer of some kind equipped. When you have the basic Workbench, you will want to make a Chopping Block. This is the first upgrade for your crafting setup and costs 10 Wood and 10 Flint. Place the Chopping Block within a short distance from the main bench. This is how you get a basic Workbench in Valheim to Level 2.

You can then upgrade the thing further with other recipes. For example, you will need to unlock the Tanning Rack recipe and place one of those down to get to Level 3. That recipe comes after you kill a deer and loot it for the first time. Keep coming back to the Workbench and checking for new upgrades as you play.
