How to update Minecraft to 1.16 The Nether Update

1.16 The Nether Update is the latest patch to drop for Mojang’s Minecraft. The new patch brings the Nether update to the base game. Adding all of the content teased in the Snapshots and more. There are new mobs, items, armors, resources, and a bunch of other content in the game now. The biggest change to the Nether is the addition of entirely new biomes with their own characteristics.

The new patch has Netherite tools, soul campfires and so much more going on. If you want a hellish challenge, this is the patch you have been waiting for.

Minecraft 1.16 The Nether Update is live on all platforms, from PC and consoles, to mobile devices, here’s a breakdown of how to install the patch on each platform.

Minecraft: Java Edition

The launcher is your fist and only stop for updating to Minecraft 1.16 The Nether Update. The launcher should automatically update the correct version, assuming you have it set to. To toggle this, head into the “Installations” tab and select “Latest Release” from the dropdown.

Windows 10

Minecraft for Windows 10 should update to the latest version automatically. If it doesn’t head into the Windows Store App and check the “downloads and updates” menu for the game. You may have to boot the game once for it to show up here.

iOS/Android

Open up App Store or Google Play on your device and search for “Minecraft”.  If you already own the game, the prompt should appear on the next boot to patch this version.

Xbox One

Go to “My Apps & Games”, select Minecraft and press the more options button. From the list, select “Manage game & add-ons” and then “Updates”. Once this is done, the console should download any needed files.

PlayStation 4

Minecraft for PS4 should automatically update the game files. If your console doesn’t get the patch for some reason, head into the “Options” menu and select “Check for Update” from the menu for the game.

Nintendo Switch

If you own Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, downloading the patch is as simple as starting the game, then opening the sub-menu with the + button. From there, use the updates menu to download the patch.
