How to unlock the final story in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Is Pokémon Scarlet and Violet an open world game?

After you take down the likes of Director Clavell and Champion Nemona, it’s almost time to head to the post-game. This is the culmination of many hours of training Pokemon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and you’re almost done. The three main story quests (Victory Road, Path of Legends and Operation Starfall Street) aren’t the end of the game.  Each phase of the quest in the overall story are linked together. You’re meant to head through the process is a defined order, and it’s going to be a tough road.

There’s actually another phase to the game after this, and beating it is how you unlock the true ending. If you want to finish Pokémon Scarlet & Violet 100%, you need this guide to learn how to unlock the final story in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. The game gets much tougher once you reach this point, so be ready. It’s recommended to have the bulk of your team at Level 70 or higher before continuing on.

After you’ve beaten all the other quests, you’re ready to begin. Once you complete all three of these storylines, you’ll receive a phone call from Arven who will explain that it is time to enter Area Zero.

The entrance, known as the Zero Gate, can be found at the map marker near the center of the map. That’s right, references to the Paldean Crater throughout the game were all leading to that giant grey void in the center of the map.

Once you reach the Zero Gate, you will be met with Penny, Arven, and Nemona. Your partner legendary, Miraodon or Koraidon, will refuse to come out, leaving you running around on foot. Your main goal will be to unlock the four locks to the professor’s lab. To do this, you will need to find four research stations and fight against strong Pokemon along the way. Look for the square buildings with white walls and blue roofs to find each station. Each one will be fairly obvious as a blue block on the minimap.

After unlocking all four locks, you will then have access to the Zero Lab. Inside, you will face one final boss battle. Here’s the breakdown, based on what game you’re playing.

  • Pokémon Scarlet
    • Great Tusk – Level 64
    • Brute Bonnet – Level 64
    • Flutter Mane – Level 64
  • Pokémon Violet
    • Iron Treads – Level 64
    • Iron Hands – Level 64
    • Iron Jugulis – Level 64

Beating this gauntlet of battles will finish off the main game, unlocking Paradox Pokemon and other features. Once you’ve unlocked the final phase after beating these three, you’re into the post-game. You can now challenge Trainers and Team Star Bosses again, and be faced with much tougher fights. You will also fully unlock Area Zero where tons of new and mysterious Pokemon spawn. It’s also a great time to start training your core team to Level 100 as there are common Level 60+ Pokemon now.
