Horizon Forbidden West is here, and Sony fans are exploring the massive world. The story of Aloy has already found a ton of bunch of cool stuff. But to find it, you have to do the exploration. As you do that, you’re sure to find some rather powerful new abilities. One such ability is basically a stealth kill in this game, called an Override. Aloy can use this to sneak up on machines and take control of them without too much trouble. Once you’ve unlocked the ability to override certain machines, you’ll need to sneak up on them in the wild and hold the Triangle button. Keep reading to learn how to unlock new overrides in Horizon Forbidden West.
Unlocking new overrides in Horizon Forbidden West
When using an override, Aloy will reprogram that machine, forcing it to fight alongside her for a short time. To get your hands on these special attacks, you need to do some digging. The overrides correspond to a certain machine, so unlocking just one is not enough. Of the six, two are encountered as part of the main story while the rest are optional. That’s where the Cauldrons come in.
To unlock the ability to override machines, you’ll need to visit and complete a Cauldron. There are six Cauldrons in total across all of Horizon Forbidden West. These special locations number six in total, and are spread all over the game world. Look for icons on your map that look like a small triangle. These will also be marked as Cauldron on the map. Go here to begin. The Cauldron is basically a challenge run, which you need to solve puzzles and fight enemies to get through. Completing it is often the first step to unlocking each override in the game.
While some machines instantly unlock for override by completing Cauldrons, other robots, like the Plowhorn, require you to do some more hunting. For these special situations, you need to turn in certain items. You can check what pieces are necessary for an Override key at the Fabrication Terminal at Aloy’s Base of Operations. Go out and gather the items you need for each override to gain that ability.
Go out into the world and find the required items from each of these lists. Find the parts listed and hand them in at the Hub to complete that override.
