How to unlock and use the AB&PD in Animal Crossing New Horizons

What's Coming in Happy Home Paradise

Animal Crossing: New Horizons brought out the big guns in its final update. The massive 2.0.0 patch added so much to the game, it’s too big to go over it all. With the addition of the new content in the patch, there’s a lot to handle. With all the new NPCs running around, trying to build houses for them is a lot to deal with. Having to also manage all the new crafting and cooking options can be a handful too.

Along with the new Pro Construction permit, there’s a lot more stuff to build as well. With all those new bridges and inclines, you’re going to need Bells to fund them. Along with the Donation Box, you need more Bells from different sources.

First Steps

First, you need to unlock the ABD. To unlock the ABD, you need to have upgraded your house to the maximum tier. This means you will have need to spend 5,696,000 Bells to unlock all of the different rooms and storage upgrades. This takes a lot of Bells, but is well worth it. The ABD will allow you direct access to your Bells, without having to go back to Resident Services every time you need more.

The ABD is purchased from the Nook Stop in your Resident Services Building and costs 9,900 Nook Miles. After being bought, it will show up in the mail the next day. You can then use it as you like. Also, If you pay Reese 8,000 Bells, he will change the color to either silver, blue, yellow, red, or green.

What is Poki?

Once you have the basic ABD unlocked, it’s time to talk about Poki. Poki is the core new currency added in the new DLC, and it’s a great way to make Bells. The Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons came with a new currency called Poki. It’s unique to the vacation island from the DLC, so it must be converted to Bells before it can be used.

The AB&PD machine is the next upgrade you need to unlock. This machine has one purpose, to convert Poki to Bells at a variable rate. Each day, a new conversion rate is set. Much like Turnips, this offers players another avenue for speculation to maximize revenue. Converting Poki on the right day can earn you more Bells.

Once you have downloaded the DLC, go to the airport and choose ‘I want to go to work’ to fly out to the vacation islands. You need to go there and design houses to make Poki, which you get paid 15,000 for when you finish each house. After that, you can spend Poki on unlocks on the Happy Home island, or get paid in Bells.

To gain access to the new AB&PD machine, you will need to design 24 or more homes. After this point, you should see Tom Nook appear in the office on the second island. He will ask you about converting your money, and award you the AB&PD machine.
