How to Turn Cross-Play in FIFA 22 On and Off

How to Turn FIFA 22 Cross-Play On and Off

FIFA 22 is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC. You can get in on the iconic football action right now. And with how big the sport is globally, folks want to get in on the action right away. Electronic Arts has put a ton of time into refining the various game modes this year, so that fans can always find something to do. But with a lot of friends, not everything goes smoothly.

But with all of those platforms, there are bound to be people who want to play together. But if they’re not on the same console or PC, that poses an issue. Cross-platform play has long been a requested feature in many games, as not everyone has the same consoles. But really, it’s been an uphill battle. Some console makers don’t support it for one reason or another. And some games don’t have the server architecture to handle the process. But in FIFA 22, it seems like a no-brainer to have support for such a feature, enter cross-play.

How to Enable/Disable Crossplay in FIFA 22

The options you can use to tweak the game are pretty varied, and almost limitless.

  1. Start on the main menu
  2. Press R2 on PS5 or RT on Xbox.
  3. Open the “Friends” section.
  4. Press the triangle button on PS5 or the Y button on Xbox.
  5. Type in your friend’s PSN or Xbox Live Gamertag.
  6. Highlight your friend’s tag in the list after it was added.
  7. Press the square button on PS5 or the X button on Xbox.
  8. Select the “Enable Cross-Play” option.

From there, you can then enjoy the game with friends on certain other platforms. Right now, you only have certain platforms with mixed playerbases. As of writing, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Stadia all have support for Cross-Play in FIFA 22. The feature is not currently available for PC or past-generation consoles, such as PS4 or Xbox One.

There’s one other restriction to be aware of, and that’s what modes you can share in. You can play matches in FIFA 22 in the Seasons and Friendly modes at the moment, but no Ultimate Team. Some users are hopeful the future will bring such a feature, but no announcement has been made.

If you want to turn the feature off, just go back to that same section of the menu and use the “Disable Cross-Play” option there.

Hopefully, Electronic Arts will add more platforms to the cross-play list in the future, but for now, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users have access to the feature.
