How to start Road to the Show in MLB The Show 22

Road to the Show gives you the traditional career mode in MLB The Show 22.  It’s a beloved entry into the roster of modes in these games, and it’s a lot of fun. Fans get to take their created characters to the top of the mountain in pro baseball. MLB The Show 22 is taking the career mode to a new level this year. The RTTS mode has many moving parts. Gamers need to manage them all to make a solid ballplayer. And the career mode won’t make things easy. There are a lot of different terms you need to learn. Let’s begin with the basics and learn what happens when you first begin Road to the Show in MLB The Show 22.

How to start Road to the Show in MLB The Show 22

When you start a new Road to the Show save, you’re asked to make your player. From here, you choose your options for stats and desired position. You will also be asked to pick an Archetype, which determines how you actually play on the field. The choices you make here can be altered later to some degree, so you’re not totally locked into them.

When you are creating your ballplayer, you will be asked to pick their desired position. This choice will impact their starting stats, so keep that in mind. One other thing to keep in mind is also the teams you wish to play for. If you’re after a roster that has a hole in their pitching staff, you have a good chance of being recruited for that position if you focus on developing for it. Trying to jump on a roster that’s too full or has an amazing player in your chosen position will result in you being stuck in the minors or riding the bench.

Now it’s important to remember that the game is somewhat lenient. If you decide to specify a team when making a player, that team will draft you no matter what. You will just have to deal with the trials and tribulations from there. Now, it’s all about being a better player as you develop.

After you’ve made your character, your path is up to you. How well you do in games will impact your stats. But there are ways to help focus your skills and improve your stats. The Loadout menu is key here. Open that up to begin.

You then get options for days. Managing your character is key, and you have a lot of things to mess around with. Your player is going to need equipment to wear on the field. Think of this stuff like your gear in a traditional RPG, as the Equipment in this game will alter your stats. There are actually two types of equipment. You can alter your Uniforms via the Appearance menu, and that’s purely cosmetic. The other option is to head into your My Ballplayer menu and edit Equipment from there. That will modify your stats instead.

Like other cards, every equipment piece is denoted by its rarity, with Diamond being the overall best. Another element of the game in RTTS is the Stubs. Stubs are what player cards are bought and sold for on the Community Marketplace. This card-based system is how you can get improvements for your teams and players.

There are other options like MLB The Show 22’s Diamond Dynasty mode, which integrate more directly with this stuff. You can manage a team over the years, trying to create a full-on dynasty in the MLB. Managing this team can be a huge ask, but it’s doable. MLB The Show 22 loves its card mechanics, and those are a big part of this mode. You need to stay on top of your Archetype and Perks as well to keep pace with the competition. You don’t want to be left behind when it comes to player development.

The list of Perks is as follows:

  • Break
  • Contact
  • Control
  • Fielding
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Velocity

Focusing on completing in-game challenges will earn you the most upgrades. You can get new Perk tiers, Equipment and more by finishing Programs and challenges. This will offer the best upgrade path for your players, so do them often.

This game has plenty of other things to learn. Once you’ve finished changing things up, you might want to improve your pitching control by mastering the slide step. Learning to use different hitting techniques like the bunt will help you on the field as well.
