How to reset your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

How to save your game in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The sheer volume of mechanics, and their variety, within Animal Crossing: New Horizons is pretty staggering for new players. And it seems that even the most simple gameplay mechanics that have become a bit intuitive for modern gamers might need a bit of an explainer. There’s another mechanic that is a bit of a mystery to some players, but there’s a good reason for it all. Players might want to hop back into their islands after a long break and change a bunch of things, and sometimes it’s just easier to reset it all.

How to reset your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, one would think that this is a very simple question. Animal Crossing: New Horizons does let you reset your entire island, basically redoing all of your progress and the decorations, crafting and other elements that you have improved over time.

Go the Home screen, then select the System Settings. From there, navigate to the Data Management option, and then select Delete Save Data. Go the Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and select it. All the save data for the game will be removed by the console. From there, just reboot the game and start all over.

It’s worth noting that this will mean the total loss of all save data for this game. And the Switch does not auto-backup this data, and this particular game does not use cloud saves. So once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.
