How to quickly increase Friendship with Kubfu in Isle of Armor

Dojo Guide for Isle of Armor in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword and Shield got the first of its two planned DLC packs this week. The Isle of Armor DLC focuses on the new Master Dojo, and its leaders Honey and Mustard. These two powerful Masters will give you access to some very high-level Pokémon and a ton of new items. With the many upgrades, unlocking them does take some work.

For starters, you need to unlock Kubfu. This does involve completing most of the story though, so enjoy your time with the game first. Once you have defeated your Rival, head back to Mustard and have a chat. He will introduce you to Kubfu, a very powerful Fighting-type with some very unique move sets. This new addition to the roster is actually really important. You need to train him to unlock the Dojo upgrades in the Master Dojo.

To unlock the Dojo Upgrades, you need to actually get Kubfu to a high level of Friendship. Normally, this involves using them in a bunch of battles until they hit the threshold. From there, return to Honey and talk to her about upgrading the Dojo. You will need to head to Digging Ma and Pa and farm tons of Watts as well. That’s beyond the scope of this guide though.

Lucky for you though, it’s very easy to get max Friendship with Kubfu.

How to Get Max Friendship with Kubfu in Isle of Armor

You need to head to the Ditto Island in the new Wild Area. This is also the same place where you’ll be farming Ditto if that’s your thing. Head out into the Workout Sea and to the small island to the southeast. Check the image below for the correct location.

Head around the island until you find a Berry Tree that’s entirely unique. You will know you found the right one when you shake it and it drops Tamato berries. Tamato berries are used to feed to a Pokémon and it will increase their friendship with you. Most Pokémon only need to consumer 4 or 5 to hit max. And this is how you will hit max Friendship with Kubfu.

Just build up a few of them and hang on to them until the end of the story when you unlock Kubfu. Feed him the few Tamato berries and start working on those Dojo upgrades.
