Pokémon Go is all about trying to get your hands on an effective battling team. With the mix of PvE and PvP challenges in the game, this process takes some work. Niantic added the CP system to add a bit more depth to the leveling system. Instead of gaining XP, you have a bit more control over the leveling process in the mobile game. Powering up Pokémon you’ve caught increases their CP and HP. You can power up a Pokémon with Stardust and Candy and it’s something you need to do a lot of in the game. Evolving a Pokémon can also increase a Pokémon’s CP and HP. But for most Trainers, you will be putting a lot of effort into powering up instead of evolving.
The process does take some time, as you need to gather resources for each level. Here’s what you need to do to Power Up Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
How to Power Up Pokémon in Pokémon Go
In Map View, tap the Main Menu Pokéball.
Select a Pokémon to power up from your list of Pokémon
Tap Power Up
You will then need to spend Candy and Stardust to complete the process. There are two types of candy you’re going to make use of most often; Candy and Candy XL. Candy XL is on the higher-level monsters in your roster. At lower levels, you will mostly be using just a bundle of Candy and Stardust to level up one time. As you go up, the costs will increase, so be prepared.
The Candy and Stardust are something you need a constant supply of, and you can get it basically by just playing the game. Getting a certain type of Candy is important, as Candy types are locked to each individual Pokémon. So if you’re trying to Power Up Pokémon in Pokémon Go like Eevee, you need Eevee candy. You can get Candy XL and Candy as a gameplay reward through a few different tactics. Here are the methods you can use to get more Candy and XL Candy.
- Feeding Pokémon at a Gym
- Hatching Pokémon
- Transferring Pokémon
Walking with your Buddy Pokémon
You can only begin collecting Candy XL at level 40 and above, so be sure to level up.
