How to Play Project Zomboid Build 41 Multiplayer

Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid is one of the best zombie games out there. The customization possible in the isometric adventure is nearly limitless, and it takes a lot of getting used to. These massive maps are filled with loot and the undead, and you have to survive. There’s a massive pool of skills and items to master, and a ton of mods make even more. But one of the best things to do in a game like this is to play with friends.

How to Opt-In and Play the Build 41 Multiplayer Branch

Project Zomboid Build 41 has been teasing multiplayer for some time, and it’s finally fully supported. Previously, mods and convoluted setups were needed to run multiplayer games. No more! The multiplayer branch is the Beta 41 build added in version 41.60. The game doesn’t have this option by default, so you need to get into the right beta branch. Since the game is installed via Steam, you need to follow these steps to start playing multiplayer in Project Zomboid build 41:

  1. Open up Steam and click Library
  2. Right-click Project Zomboid and select Properties.
  3. Open the tab titles Betas.
  4. Open the first drop-down menu and select the version called “b41multiplayer – b41multiplayer”
  5. You should now have to wait for a patch to come down.
  6. Load the game via Steam and then make your game settings.

Once you have the beta downloaded, you can play multiplayer.

Joining a Multiplayer Server in Project Zomboid Build 41.60

The multiplayer version of the game allows you to host your own server, or join an existing one. Project Zomboid Build 41 multiplayer is built around allowing you to just hot-join any server you like. At the main menu you can see the option for Join. Select it and the game should load the server list. When you make your own server, it should show up here. There’s a Favorites option there that will allow you to save servers you like playing on for easy rejoining. The Internet  tab will show all the currently online servers for the game that are tracked via Steam.
