How to Meld Materia in Final Fantasy XIV

How to Meld Materia in Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker is here. The expansion has added so many new things that it’s hard to cover them all. The increased level cap gave players a bunch more stuff to chase. There’s new gear to craft, and quests to complete. If you’re brand new to the game, or coming back from a long break, check out the Hall of the Novice. The Hall of the Novice can be found in Western La Noscea at (x28,y24). This location will help acclimate you to new group-based combat through various challenges.

Now that you know a bit more, let’s dive in. One of the cool things about this MMO is that there’s no need for alts. You can use the same character for all the different classes, even crafting. This is a great timesaver, and makes it far easier to get into the game knowing that you don’t have to specialize one character. And with each expansion, comes new jobs too, like the Reaper and Sage. It might also help to learn how to change jobs as well.

Since you learned the basics, it’s time to get into the real meat of the gameplay. Materis, a common fixture in the Final Fantasy franchise, is in this MMO. Here are the basics of how the system works. There are 8 tiers of Materia in FF 14, and Endwalker has added two more.

Melding Materia is a way for max-level players to boost the power of their gear. The system requires players to be of the same level as the gear they wish to meld. Then, you need to get the materials you wish to use. Visiting Materia Melders is the quickest way to do this. Newer players will have a much easier time using the melder vendors for now.

Also, you can use the Transmutation system added in a previous patch. Players can trade Mutamix Bubblypots in Central Thanalan (x23,y13) 5 pieces of any kind of materia and he will give you one random materia in return.

To meld Materia yourself, you will need to complete the Waking the Spirit quest. The quest giver is F’hobhas, located at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (x:23, y:13). You will need to be level 19 or higher with at least one crafter job to get this done. That will unlock the action you can use to meld Materia in Final Fantasy XIV. This will unlock a series of quests to do with melding material. You also need to complete Forging the Spirit and Melding Materia Muchly quests to get the full suite of features.

But that’s not all, as the new expansion has added new grades of Materia to offer more power for endgame players.

Getting the new grades of Materia

Most endgame players will get the new Tier IX and Tier X Materia from the new Level 90 dungeons, where it’s a common drop from bosses. You can also extract some Materia through breaking down level 80+ gear as well. This will be the best way to get the two new tiers of materials for powering up your gear.

Alternatively, you can trade Cracked Anthoclusters and Cracked Dendroclusters with Materia Venders in the new cities added in the expansion. Cracked Dendroclusters are traded for Tier IX Materia. Cracked Anthroclusters can be handed in for Tier X. You can sometimes get these as quest rewards and loot drops. The best source of these items is from Levelling Duty Roulettes or Alliance Raid Duty Roulettes.
